  3. Warm up the source completely. My current industrial laser needs 15 minutes to stabilize. The old one needed closer to an hour — I just didn't know it at the time.
  4. Monitor mid-run. On runs above 50 pieces, check a sample at every 25 mugs. Stop and adjust as soon as drift appears — don't finish the run and hope.
  5. Buy reliability first, then features. A used industrial fiber laser with a documented service history beats a new entry-level machine for color engraving, full stop. In my opinion, that's the only sensible choice if you have real deadlines.
