  • Assuming "used" means fully functional. It doesn't. Half the used lasers on the market are being sold because something went wrong and the owner doesn't want to fix it.
  • Not asking for a video of the machine running a test pattern. A static photo tells you nothing about galvanometer jitter or beam quality. Always ask for a real-time video of a 30-second engrave on black acrylic.
  • Ignoring the warranty or return policy. Most private sellers offer none. But if you're buying from a dealer, they should give at least 30 days. If they won't, consider it a huge red flag.
  • Trusting the hour meter blindly. Some sellers reset the meter or replace just the controller board. Check the laser source's actual operating history via its firmware if possible (some IPG sources store internal logs).
